Expedited Mail Service (EMS)
EMS, which is a Postal express service for documents and merchandise, and shall whenever possible be the quickest postal service.
EMS items are accepted at all Post Offices and Sub Post Offices

Additionally, tracking services provided by the destination country’s official websites can also be used
Documents should be sent in a strong envelope. (Minimum size is A4)
EMS Parcels should be packed in a strong carton box.

Size Limits :Maximum length of the larger side of the parcel :
will be 100cm or 150cm. Maximum Length of the parcel depends on the destination country (Please check below country list for maximum length)

- Customers must ensure that all parcels are strongly and securely packaged to withstand handling and transportation. Poor or inadequate packaging may result in damage or non-acceptance of the parcel.
- If an EMS item is returned from the destination (after being unable to be delivery), it is not possible to refund the postage.If no need to send the undelivered EMS items back to the country, please mark ☑ on the Treat an Abandoned box in the IF Undelivered section of the CN23 form. (As some countries charge a redirection fee)
Enquiries should be submitted within 2 weeks of Posting Date.
The customer copy of the CN23 form should be kept safe as it is required in case of any complaint regarding EMS
- All EMS postal goods received in Sri Lanka are inspected by customs officials
- Released EMS items by customs will be delivered to the customers.
- The customers will be informed by a notice regarding the items detained for customs inspection.
- The customs inspection will be done at EMS Center Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Investment Promotion Zone Katunayake and Trincomalee post offices.
- After customs inspection, if the customs decides to levy taxes for the contents the fees mentioned in the customs form should be paid.
- If you are not possible to visit customs inspection centers, the goods can be sent to the nearest post office by completing and signing the relevant forms and sending the relevant letter to the addressed customs inspection center and the goods can be collected by paying the relevant customs fees from that post office.
