Enhancing Cash On Delivery for today’s online businesses—Sri Lanka Post ensures swift payment transfer to sellers by collecting the due amount upon delivery, making e-commerce smoother and more reliable.
Cash On Delivery (SLPost COD) is a postal service that collects the value and returns it to the sender for its value after delivery. The SLPost COD service operates as a service similar to the Value Payable Post (VPP) service, which has been implemented by the postal department for a long time without computer systems or methods. But the SLPost COD service is fully computerized. This service has been open to the public from 15-12-2020 through all post and sub post offices across the country.
- Facilities are hereby provided to send a parcel or other postal item to a buyer at any address within Sri Lanka on a cash on delivery basis.
- Sellers sending goods for business purposes can use SLPost COD service to send business goods and receive money.
- Over 7000 Postmen/Messengers trained for home delivery along with postal officers, supervisors and other staff trained in parcel handling and postal process to carry out proper parcel sorting process.
- The shipper or the seller has the ability to collect the money as soon as the product is received by the buyer or consignee from the destination office, receives the relevant money and enters the split data into the software system from the post office where the product was delivered.
- By providing the relevant barcode number and verifying the identity, those who have sent the product can collect money from any post / sub post office of their choice in the island.
Items other than items prohibited from being sent by mail, items that require insurance, and items that exceed the length and weight limits that can be sent by mail can be sent.

Customers who wish to deliver goods to SLPost COD for business purposes can register with SLPost COD.
- Customers who wish to deliver goods to SLPost COD for business purposes can register with SLPost COD. - The following facilities can be arranged for the registered sellers.
- Allowing the goods to be packed and brought to their home or workplace. (Exemption from requirement of packing at Post Office)
- Affixing barcode labels on the parcels and handing over to the respective seller a sufficient number of barcodes according to the number of items being mailed.
- Facilitate coordination with post office officer delivering parcels for coordination where necessary.
- If the requirements are met, a user account with facilities to enter data into the software system and inquire about the SLPost COD delivered by them to the post is provided under the recommendation of the postmaster.
- A strong cover, box or suitable package should be used according to the nature of the sending item. If polythene covers are used, a paper that can note by a pen should also be used.
- In order to identify easily at the Post, ”COD” should clearly mentioned on the parcel.
- For the convenience and speed of the delivery, the sender’s address should be entered on the left and the recipient’s on the right and whenever its possible, the recipient’s telephone number should be mentioned below recipient’s address.
- Also, mentioning the postal code of the delivering office below the address will facilitate quick delivery of the parcel to the recipient.
- There should be a clear place on the parcel to affix the Barcode label
- Under normal circumstances, a COD item is received at any destination in the island within 03 days and deliver accordingly. That is, the sender or the seller will have the opportunity to get the money within three days after the delivery of the product to the postal department.
- Under certain circumstances, this time may be reduced or increased to some extent.
- Every items received under this service is entered into a software prepared for it and all matters such as receipt and distribution at the division office are recorded in the software.
- After receiving the product at the destination office, the postman/ Messengers will take the item home and deliver it.
- If it is not possible to deliver the product at that time, it will try to deliver the product 03 times on the next day.
- b. In case of failure to deliver the item, a notice to come to the post office to receive the item will be delivered to the person at the address where the product will be delivered, or if there is a letter box at home, it will be contained in it.
- c. If the recipient’s phone number is recorded on the package, the postal staff will also phone to inform them that the package has been picked up.
- d. An item that attempts to split and fails to deliver, will be held at the destination office for 05 days after arrival at the destination.
- e. However, if the product is no longer accepted, the product will be returned to the product’s return address.
- f. Only if the consignee requests that further retention of the product is required, the product will be retained at the post office by paying the applicable daily warehousing charges in stamps.
- Track and Trace facility is provided under https://bepost.lk/p/Search/web based software solution.

Please contact the sender - Hold the payment to sender ?If you receive something except order or mislead by the sender, please make a query to police station and submit a copy of the query to postmaster to hold the payment
